Immediate Feedback from Engineering & Technology Interactive

We were so glad to have 123 students from across Central Texas participate in Engineering & Technology Interactive: Designing Your Future last Friday at Texas State University for a day of engineering and technology education and career exploration.

Designing Many Futures…

Over 120 high school students and a handful of teachers and school administrators had a chance to visit with faculty and students from the engineering and technology programs at Texas State University.  Students and staff from The University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering were also on hand to assist with activities and answer questions.

In addition to checking out high tech labs and classrooms, the students participated in some good-natured school rivalry through a recycled rubber band car design challenge.  The day concluded with a Q&A panel focused on choosing a major and school, scholarship applications and financial aid forms.  All participants were provided a folder of resources from Austin Community College, Texas State and UT as well as general tips for college planning.

A teacher from Hays said: “My kids enjoyed the tours and were excited about the prospect of entering a Technology/Engineering career.”

Designing Your Future was coordinated by a committee of school officials and community organizers representing Austin ISD,  Leander ISD, Lake Travis ISD, Manor ISD, Round Rock ISD, ACC, Texas State University, UT Austin, E3 Alliance, and Skillpoint Alliance.

This program was offered free of charge to Central Texas high school students thanks to generous funding from: E3 Alliance, The National Science Foundation, Skillpoint Alliance, and Texas State University. A detailed report of the program will be available in December 2008.
