Velocity Prep Interns Get ACL Tour & Passes

It’s no secret that one of Austin’s favorite weekends is this week- the Austin City Limits Festival weekend! But it’s also a big weekend for the nineteen AISD kids who participated in one of Skillpoint Alliance’s TEEC programs, Velocity Prep, this summer. C3 Presents was so impressed with the students’ presentation regarding a possible Latin Music Festival in Texas that all 19 students received complimentary three-day passes to ACL! Additionally, this Thursday the students will get a behind-the-scenes tour of the ACL stages!

AISD interns, from Johnston (now Eastside Memorial), Travis, Reagan, and LBJ High Schools, worked on a consulting project for C3 Presents, the talent and booking agency that coordinates the Austin City Limits Festival. Students who completed the program also received paychecks for their work, and C3 Presents is seriously considering their recommendations for a Latin Music Festival.

Velocity Prep was created by the Technology & Education Executive Council (TEEC). The program is a direct response to industry and education leaders’ desire to see high school students gain relevant work experience and exposure to career paths involving science, math, technology and engineering. Velocity Prep offers high school students a meaningful, relevant, and interesting summer work experience. Employed at a mock company, students use problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills to develop and deliver a solution for a real business client.
